A variety of O-methyl-3-acyl tetronates were prepared in good yield from the corresponding acid chlorides via a palladium catalyzed acylation of O-methyl 3-(tri-n-butylstannyl) tetronate 5.This new synthetic method was the exploited for the total synthesis of the novel antibiotic agglomerin A 3a, as well as the fungal metabolite (+/-)-carolinic acid 15.
