The reaction of Zn(EC6H2But3)2 (E = S or Se) with organic carbonyl compounds gives the first isolable aldehyde and ketone complexes of zinc as models for transient metal-substrate complexes in metalloenzymes such as liver alcohol dehydrogenase.
