Compounds containing fused 3,4-dihydropyrimidin-2(1H)-one or 3,4-dihydropyrimidine-2(1H)-thione moieties were prepared by three-component reactions of a steroidal or nonsteroidal ketone, an alkyl or aryl aldehyde, and urea or thiourea in the presence of sodium ethoxide.
