1405-41-0 Usage

Gentamycin sulfate is a complex mixture of the sulfates of gentamicin C1, gentamicin C1a, and gentamicin C2, which are amino-saccharides derived from the antibiotic complex produced by fermentation. It is a white to buff-colored powder with a pH range of 3.5 to 5.5 and is odorless.

Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
Gentamycin sulfate is used as a broad-spectrum antibiotic for both topical and systemic applications, exhibiting bactericidal action. It is particularly effective against a wide range of bacteria and is used to treat various infections.
Used in Ophthalmic Drugs:
Gentamycin sulfate is used as an ingredient in ophthalmic drugs due to its antibacterial properties, helping to treat eye infections and maintain ocular health.
Used as an Antibacterial Agent:
Gentamycin sulfate inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the L6 protein of the 50S ribosomal subunit, making it an effective antibacterial agent.
Antibiotic Complex:
The antibiotic complex consists of three closely related components, gentamicins C1, C2, C1a, and gentamicin A, which is similar to Kanamycin C. These components contribute to the overall effectiveness of gentamycin sulfate as an antibiotic.
Chemical Properties:
Gentamycin sulfate is a white to buff-colored powder with chemical properties that make it suitable for use in the pharmaceutical and ophthalmic industries. Its pH range of 3.5 to 5.5 ensures stability and effectiveness in various applications.
Please note that gentamycin sulfate has pharmaceutical incompatibilities with substances such as amphotericin, cephalosporins, erythromycin, heparin, penicillins, sodium bicarbonate, and sulfadiazine sodium.

Therapeutic Function

Air & Water Reactions

Water soluble. Hygroscopic.

Reactivity Profile

Gentamycin sulfate is very stable in solution, even in moderately acidic to strongly basic aqueous media.

Fire Hazard

Flash point data for Gentamycin sulfate are not available; however, Gentamycin sulfate is probably combustible.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Mode of Action: Gentamicin inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S subunit of the ribosome.Antimicrobial spectrum: Includes Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria, including strains resistant to tetracycline, chloramphenicol, kanamycin and colistin, particularly strains of Pseudomonas, Proteus, Staphylococcus and Streptococcus.

Safety Profile

Poison by intravenous, intraperitoneal, and intramuscular routes. Moderately toxic by subcutaneous route. Human systemic effects: level changes for metals other than Na/K/Fe/Ca/P/Cl. An experimental teratogen. Other experimental reproductive effects. Mutation data reported. When heated to decomposition it emits very toxic fumes of SOx. See also other gentamycin entries.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 1405-41-0 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 1,4,0 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 1 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 1405-41:
50 % 10 = 0
So 1405-41-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
