New methyl and ethyl-3- benzoates and their corresponding phenyl sulfonyl derivatives have been synthesized and identified by UV, IR and 1H-NMR.Both phenylthio 1 and 2 as well as phenyl sulfonyl derivatives 3 and 4 showed a linear relationship between chemical shift δ ppm of the benzylic protons and ?-Hammett constants.
