Structural and antimicrobial studies of some newly synthesized mixed ligand complexes of CoII, NiII, CuIIand Zn II

Four new mixed ligand complexes of CoII, NiII, CuII and ZnII with 2-furylglyoxal-2-amino thiophenol (FGATP) and diphenyl amine-2-hydroxy-2?-carboxylic acid (DPHC) were synthesized and characterized by their melting point determination of recrystallised samples, running TLC for single spot, elemental analyses, molar conductance, magnetic measurements, IR, 1H NMR and UV spectral data. All the synthesized compounds were screened for antimicrobial activities against two bacteria, Escherichia coli (gram -ve) and Staphylococcus aureus (gram +ve), and two fungi, Aspergillus niger and Aspergillus flavus. Metal complexes exhibit several fold increase in their antimicrobial activity in comparison to that of the constituting ligand fragments as determined by Serial Dilution Method.

The invention discloses a new use of a class of heptacyclic compounds in the preparation of formulations for the prevention and treatment of diabetes and metabolic syndromes; the present invention also discloses a new class of heptacyclic compounds; the present invention also discloses a process for preparing the heptacyclic compounds and a composition containing the same. The heptacyclic compounds of the present invention can be used to effectively preventing or treating diseases such as diabetes and metabolic syndromes.

A description is given of the use of amino-substituted benzoic acid derivatives of the formula I STR1 in which R1 and R2 denote hydrogen, (cyclo)alkyl, unsubstituted or substituted phenyl or naphthyl, or R1 and R2 together denote a chain --(CH2)m -- with m=3 to 6, or together denote a chain --(CH=CH)n -- with n equal to 2 or 3; R3 denotes hydrogen, halogen or alkyl; R4 denotes hydrogen or NO2 ; R5 denotes hydrogen or a radical which can be eliminated under physiological conditions; for the preparation of a remedy for diarrhea.

Synthesis and characterisation of a new ligand, 2-carboxy,2'-hydroxy diphenylamine has been described.The potentiometric studies on the binary and ternary complexes of the above ligand with some transition metal ions (Cu2+, Ni2+, Zn2+ and Cd2+) have been carried out.The dissociation constants of free ligand and the stability constants for 1:1, M-L and 1:1:1, M-L-L' have been evaluated at 25+/-1 deg in 2.5percent ethanolic medium.The systems 1:1:1, M(II)-DPHC-HQ (HQ=8-hydroxyquinoline) were also studied pH-metrically.The copper complex was isolated, characterised and tested for its fungicidal and bactericidal activities towards some selected species.
