The acylhydrazones (III), obtained from treatment of sebacic acid dihydrazide (II) with various aromatic aldehydes, on oxidative cyclization with ferric chloride yields 1,8-bis(1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-yl)octanes (IV) which are converted into 1,8-bis(4-amino-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl)octanes (V) with hydrazine hydrate.

Dehydration of N,N'-diacylalkanedioic acid dihydrazides with phosphoryl chloride gave 5,5'-disubstituted-2,2'-(1,n-alkanediyl)bis-1,3,4-oxadiazoles.The structures of these compounds were elucidated by 1H, 13C NMR, UV and IR spectroscopy.KEY WORDS: Bis-1,3,4-oxadiazoles; 1H NMR; 13C NMR
