Nickel(II) and cobalt(II) complexes of the general compositions M( Tptacdte)X2 (Tptacdte = 2,3,8,9-tetraphenyl-1,4,7,10-tetraazacyclododeca-1,3,7,9-tetraene; X = Cl, Br, SCN for Ni(II) and X = Cl, NO3, SCN for Co(II) and Co(Tptacdte)SO4.(H2O)2 have been synthesized. The complexes have been characterized on the basis of elemental analyses, molar conductance measurements, magnetic susceptibility measurements, IR and electronic spectral studies. The complexes were found to stabilize an octahedral geometry for the Ni(II) complexes and a distorted octahedral geometry for the Co(II) complexes.
Synthesis, characterization and electrochemistry of unsymmetrical macrocyclic cobalt(II) complexes derived from bis(benzil)ethylenediimine
Radhakrishna Reddy,Mohana Raju,Hussain Reddy
, p. 677 - 680 (2007/10/03)
Macrocyclic cobalt(II) complexes with varying ring sizes (12-14 membered) have been synthesized by using template method with bis(benzil)ethylenediamine precursor. These complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, conductance, IR and electronic spectra. The spectral data suggest octahedral geometry for all the complexes. Various ligand field parameters have been calculated. The CV results suggest that the cobalt complexes derived from aromatic diamines are reduced at more negative potentials.

2 + 2 Cyclocondensation of benzil with aliphatic diamines viz. 1,2-diaminoethane, 1,3-diaminopropane, 1,4-diaminobutane, 1,6-diaminohexane, 1,8-diaminooctane or 1,12-diaminododecane in the presence of Co(II) as a template yields a series of pentacoordinated high spin Co(II) complexes of the type X (where L = N4 macrocycle having 12- to 32-membered ring and X = NO3, Cl).The complexes have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR and diffuse reflectance spectra, conductances and magnetic measurements.
