Preparation of optically active propranolol analogues

Enantiomeric and diastereomeric propranolol analogues of 1 (R1 = CH3, R2, R3 = H and R1 = CH3, R2 = C6H5, R3 = H) which should be distinguished by β-adrenergic properties were prepared either by resolution with p-DTTA or by synthetic procedures using optically active glycidyl derivatives. Configuration dependent pharmacological behavior was observed in initial studies.
