The condensation of trichloro- and trifluoroacetonitriles with 4-hydroxy-4-methyl-2-pentanone and 2-hydroxyacetophenone in the presence of (phenylethylamino)magnesium bromide gave a series of β-aminovinyl ketones containing a hydroxyl group in addition to the aminoenone system.Acid hydrolysis of these compounds gave high yields of dihydro- and tetrahydropyrans and also chromones and chromanones.
