2-Ethoxycarbonyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone (1) reacts with piperidine, methylamine and anthranilic acid to give the Mannich bases and 4H-3,1-benzoxazin-4-one derivatives.The behaviour of the latter towards some nitrogen nucleophilic has been described.Compound 1 also reacts with hydrazine and gives the corresponding hydrazide (8), the bahaviour of which towards aldehydes, ketones, and phenyl isocyanate has also been discussed.
