β-Diketones react with a gold-containing oxonium salt to form aurated β-diketonates, in which the gold atom is attached to the central carbon atom of a β-diketone. The reaction of ferrocenoyltrifluoroacetone results in a mixture of C- and O-derivatives, which are readily interconverted. The reaction of trifluoroacetylacetone with tris(triphenylphosphinegold)oxonium tetrafluoroborate only affords a substitution of the anion in the oxonium salt; gold diketonate does not form.
