1-Thia-4-phenyl-4-azaspirononan-3-one (1a), 1-thia-4-benzyl-4-azaspirononan-3-one (1b), 1-thia-4-phenyl-4-azaspirodecan-3-one (2a) and 1-thia-4-benzyl-4-azaspirodecan-3-one (2b) react with isatine (3) to afford 2-(2'-oxo-3'-indolylidene)-1-thia-4-phenyl-4-azaspirononan-3-one (4a), 2-(2'-oxo-3'-indolylidene)-1-thia-4-benzyl-4-azaspirononan-3-one (4b), 2-(2'-oxo-3'-indolylidene)-1-thia-4-phenyl-4-azaspirodecan-3-one (5a) and 2-(2'-oxo-3'-indolylidene)-1-thia-4-benzyl-4-azaspirodecan-3-one (5b), respectively.Condensation of 4a,b and 5a,b with urea, methylurea, thiourea and phenylthiourea yields the corresponding spiropyrimidinones (6a-h) and spirothiopyrimidinones (7a-h) together with 3'-substituted spirothiazolodiazepin>-5'(7'H)ones/thiones 8a-d and 9a-d, respectively.The products have been characterized by elemental analyses, IR and PMR spectra.
