There is disclosed a pharmaceutical composition comprising as active ingredient a linked cyclic compound of general formula I,Z - R - A - R' - Y in which Z and Y are independently cyclic polyamine moieties having from 9 to 32 ring members and from 3 to 8 amine nitrogens in the ring spaced by 2 or more carbon atoms from each other, ???A is an aromatic or heteroaromatic moiety, ???R and R' are each a substituted or unsubstituted alkylene chain or heteroatom containing chain. or an acid addition salt or metal complex thereof, in admixture or association with a pharmaceutically acceptable diluent or carrier.

The symmetrically hydrocarbon-bridged complexes (OC)5M-(CH2)n+1-X-(CH2)n+1-M(CO)5 are obtained by the reaction of the bistriflates X2 with the carbonyl metalates (1-) (M = Mn, Re) in THF and dimethyl ether, respectively.According to an X-ray structural analysis 8a crystallizes in the triclinic space group P with Z = 2.Depending on the solvent, the reaction of 7a with (1-) affords also the cyclic carbene complex 10a.The behavior of the manganese compounds toward CO has been investigated exemplarily in the case of 8a and leads to the diacyl complex 1,2-C6H42 (11).Upon reaction with Na2CO3/CH3OH 11 is converted to give the corresponding diester 1,2-C6H42 (12).Key words: Bistriflates, Hydrogen-Bridged Complexes, Manganese Complexes, Rhenium Complexes, Crystal Structure
