2 (1) reacts with +- (2) as well as with the neutral Ph2PCH2CH2NMe2 (4) to give the water soluble cationic dinuclear rhodium complex 22+22- (3) and the neutral dinuclear complex 2 (5), respectively. Both are highly active catalysts for hydrogenation. The NMR spectra of the new compounds and the X-ray crystal structure analysis of 5 are reported and discussed.
