A new method for the synthesis of heterocycle-fused [c]thiophenes via reaction of aryl heteroaryl thioketones with the carbene precursors, bis(arylsulfonyl)diazomethanes and phenyliodonium bis(phenylsulfonyl)methylide, is described.
