A NOVEL SYNTHESIS OF SOME NAPHTHOTHIAZOLE-4,9-DIONES FROM LAWSONE

A series of naphthothiazole-4,9-diones (IV) have been prepared by the condensation of bromolawsone (II) with thiosemicarbazones derived from aldehydes and ketones in dry DMF. The products (V) are also obtained by the cyclization of the intermediate 2-chlorobenzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone of 1,4-naphthoquinone (IV) in ethanol containing KHCO3 obtained from 2,3-dichloronaphthoquinone.
