Triphenyllanthanoids Ph3Ln(THF)3 (Ln = Er (1), Tm (2)) were synthesized in THF by reaction of metallic lanthanoids with Ph2Hg or Ph3Bi in the presence of catalytic amounts of LnI3. The X-ray diffraction studies of 1 and 2 have shown that these species represent monomeric complexes with a distorted facoctahedral arrangement of ligands around the Ln atom.
