Synthesis and hypotensive activity of some N-alkylideneaminoxy-3-mercaptopropan-2-ols

1-(6-Methoxyindanylideneaminoxy)-2,3-epoxypropane (3) on treatment with 3-mercapto-5-substituted-s-triazoles in methanol gives 1-(6-methoxyindanylideneaminoxy)-3-(5-aryl-s-triazol-3-ylmercapto)propan-2-ols (10a,b).Similarly compounds 1-(4-methoxybenzylideneaminoxy)-2,3-epoxypropane (6) and 1-(tetralinylideneaminoxy)-2,3-epoxypropane (9) on treatment with 3-mercapto-5-substituted-s-triazoles in methanol furnish 1-(4-methoxybenzylideneaminoxy)-3-(5-aryl-s-triazol-3-ylmercapto)propan-2-ols (11a-d) and 1-(tetralinylideneaminoxy)-3-(5-aryl-s-triazol-3-ylmercapto)propane-2-ols (12a-d) respectively.Compounds 10, 11 and 12 have been tested for hypotensive activity on normotensive anaesthetised rats.Compound 10a show better hypotensive activity whereas compounds 11b, 11c, 12d show very mild activity.
