A method for preparing an allylic silane compound of the formula AmRnSiCl4-n-mis disclosed, said method comprising reacting (A) a chlorosilane of the formula RnSiCl4-nwith (B) a halogenated allylic compound, said reaction being carried out in an aprotic dipolar organic solvent in the presence of metallic zinc, wherein A represents an allylic group, R is independently selected from the group consisting of a hydrogen atom, saturated hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms and an unsaturated hydrocarbon group having 1 to 20 carbon atoms , n is an integer having a value of 0 to 3 and m is an integer having a value of 1 to 4.
