Polyfluorinated carbocations stabilized by oxygen and sulfur
Petrov, Viacheslav A.,Davidson, Fred
, p. 5 - 14 (2007/10/03)
Polyfluorinated oxonium cations RfCH2OCFX(+) and acyclic perfluorinated sulfonium cations RfSCF2(+) are prepared by the reaction of corresponding ethers or sulfides with antimony pentafluoride in SO2ClF solvent and characterized by 19F and 1H spectroscopy. Based on experimental data the relative stability of polyfluorinated oxonium cations are determined.

A process is disclosed for producing a fluorinated ether of the formula R2 CHOCF2 A, where A is Cl or F, and each R is H, (CF2)n Cl, (CF2)n F or (CF2)n H (n is an integer from 1 to 10) by reacting a first reactant of the formula R2 CHOY where Y is H, COF, COCl or COOCHR2 (R is as defined above), a second reactant selected of the formula CZ2 Cl2 or COZ2 where each Z is independently Cl or F (provided that when A is Cl, the second reactant is CZ2 Cl2), and HF; and recovering the fluorinated ether from the reaction products. Also disclosed are bis-ethers of the formula (CF3 (CF2)m)2 CHOCF2 OCH(CF2)m CF3)2, where m is an integer of 0 to 3, which can also be produced by the process.
