In this paper, we report in detail the synthesis and properties of a family of bis(pentamethylcyclopentadienyl) uranium(IV) arylimido complexes produced from both metathesis and protonation routes and discuss their two electron oxidation reactions with organic azides, amine N-oxides, and nitrous oxide. As part of this study, the solid state structures of the anionic arylimido species [Li(TMED)][(η5-C5 Me5)2U- (NC6H5)Cl] (1) and the neutral terminal arylimi complex (η5-C5Me5)2U(N-2,4,6-t-Bu3 C6H2) (8) have been determined. The latter compoun represents the first f2 analog of the known d2 gro 6 organoimido complexes of the general formula (C5H4R)2M(=NtBu)(M = Mo or W).
