Various novel Grubbs-Hoveyda second-generation catalysts activated by a fluorous tag on the ligands were prepared. The catalyst bearing the 1-naphthyl group on the bidentate ligand exhibited the highest catalytic activity among the studied catalysts for the ring-closing-metathesis reaction of diethyl 2-allyl-2-(2-methylallyl)malonate.
FLUORINATED DYES AND THEIR USE IN ELECTROPHORETIC DISPLAY DEVICES

Page/Page column 16-17, (2008/12/04)
This invention relates to process for preparing fluorinated dyes selected from the group consisting of compounds of the general formulae (I) and (III) and mixtures thereof by reacting the corresponding compounds which do not have R12 or R30 as substituents with compounds of the general formula R12A or R30A where A is selected from the group consisting of I and Br, the compounds obtained from said process and the use of these fluorinated dyes in electrophoretic displays.

, (2008/06/13)
A method for preparing tris[(1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluoroalkyl)aryl]phosphites consists in preparing a grignard reagent from an alkoxyhalogenobenzene, then reacting it with a iodo-1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluoroalkane; transforming the alkoxy function of (1H,1H,2H,2H,2H-perfluoroalkyl)alkoxybenzene obtained into a hydroxy function, then reacting (1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluoroalkyl)hydroxybenzene with PCl3. The invention also concerns fluorinated arylphosphites and their use as transition metal ligand for making catalysts to be used in two-phase catalysis with fluorinated phase.
Hydroformylation of higher olefins by rhodium/tris-((1H,1H,2H,2H-perfluorodecyl)phenyl)phosphites complexes in a fluorocarbon/hydrocarbon biphasic medium: Effects of fluorinated groups on the activity and stability of the catalytic system

The synthesis of three fluorous triarylphosphites in which an 'insulating' ethylene segment separates the perfluoroalkylgroup from the aryl group is described. The stabilities, solubilities and partition coefficients of these new compounds are reported. The complexes generated in situ from these fluorous triarylphosphites and Rh(acac)(CO)2 have been tested as catalysts for the hydroformylation of various olefins under fluorous biphasic conditions. The activities and the selectivities were found to vary markedly with the position of the perfluoroalkylgroup on the aromatic ring. The possibility to recover the catalytic system was also investigated from consecutive recycling experiments.
