It is a colorless liquid at room temperature and is soluble in common organic solvents. Silanamine, N-ethyl-1,1,1-trimethyl- is primarily used as a coupling agent in the production of silicone-based materials, such as silicone rubber, sealants, and adhesives. It enhances the adhesion between the silicone and various substrates, such as glass, metal, and plastic, by forming a strong bond between the two surfaces. N-ethyl-1,1,1-trimethylsilanamine is also employed as an intermediate in the synthesis of other organosilicon compounds and as a reagent in various chemical reactions. Due to its reactivity, it should be handled with care and stored in a well-ventilated area, away from heat and open flames.
