The pyridopyridazines 4a-k were obtained via condensing the pyridazinones 1a,b with dimethylformamide dimethyl acetal and subsequent treatment of the formed dimethylaminoethylene derivatives (2a-c) with ammonia, amines and hydrazines.Compound 4a is also formed from the reaction of 1d with HOAc/HCl (cf.Scheme 1).In contrast 2a-c afforded the pyridopyridazine-1-carboxylic acid 6a-c on treatment with HOAc/HCl.The reaction of 1a with carbon disulfide followed by methyl iodide gives the thiopyranopyridazine 11.The reaction of the thienopyridazinone (13a) with dimethylacetylene dicarboxylate gives the phthalazine (16) as the sole product, whereas reaction of (13a) with diethyl fumarate gives the thiadiazaacenaphthylene (19).
