Description
(2-Amino-5-chlorophenyl)-cyclohexylmethanone, commonly known as methylone, is a synthetic designer drug that exhibits both stimulant and entactogen effects. It is a member of the cathinone class, which are amphetamine-like compounds. Methylone is characterized by its white crystalline appearance and can be consumed through various methods, including oral, nasal, or inhalation. This substance is known to induce heightened alertness, euphoria, and a sense of empathy, but it also poses significant risks due to its potential to cause adverse physical and psychological effects such as increased heart rate, elevated blood pressure, anxiety, and paranoia. Due to its potential for abuse and harmful health impacts, methylone is classified as a controlled substance in numerous countries.
Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Research:
Methylone is utilized as a research chemical for the development of new medications, particularly in the study of psychoactive substances and their effects on the central nervous system. Its unique properties allow scientists to explore its potential therapeutic applications while also understanding the risks associated with its use.
Used in Forensic Toxicology:
In the field of forensic toxicology, methylone is analyzed to identify and quantify its presence in biological samples, such as blood or urine, to determine cases of drug abuse or intoxication. This helps in legal proceedings and understanding the extent of substance misuse in society.
Used in Drug Education and Awareness Programs:
Methylone is featured in drug education and awareness programs to inform the public about the dangers of synthetic designer drugs. These programs aim to raise awareness about the risks associated with the consumption of such substances and promote harm reduction strategies.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 1789-30-6 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 1,7,8 and 9 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 3 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 1789-30:
(6*1)+(5*7)+(4*8)+(3*9)+(2*3)+(1*0)=106
106 % 10 = 6
So 1789-30-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Trypanothione reductase (TryR) is a genetically validated drug target in the parasite Trypanosoma brucei, the causative agent of human African trypanosomiasis. Here we report the discovery, synthesis, and development of a novel series of TryR inhibitors based on a 3,4-dihydroquinazoline scaffold. In addition, a high resolution crystal structure of TryR, alone and in complex with substrates and inhibitors from this series, is presented. This represents the first report of a high resolution complex between a noncovalent ligand and this enzyme. Structural studies revealed that upon ligand binding the enzyme undergoes a conformational change to create a new subpocket which is occupied by an aryl group on the ligand. Therefore, the inhibitor, in effect, creates its own small binding pocket within the otherwise large, solvent exposed active site. The TryR-ligand structure was subsequently used to guide the synthesis of inhibitors, including analogues that challenged the induced subpocket. This resulted in the development of inhibitors with improved potency against both TryR and T. brucei parasites in a whole cell assay.
