A number of mixed ligand complexes of cobalt(II) and nickel(II) containing trans-[14]-diene and some organic monobasic acids of composition, [M((L″)2L″][M = cobalt(II) and nickel(II), L′ = acetic acid, propionic acid, butyric acid and benzoic acid and L″ = trans- [14]-diene] have been isolated and characterized by elemental analyses, conductivity and magnetic measurements, IR and electronic spectral studies. The molar conductance values reveal that the complexes are 2:1 electrolytes in DMF. The magnetic data, IR and electronic spectra of the complexes are consistent with the high spin six-coordinated octahedral geometry for cobalt(II) complexes and tetragonal geometry for nickel(II) complexes of D4h symmetry.
