Peroxide, bis(3,3-dimethyl-1-oxobutyl), also known as bis(3,3-dimethylbutyryl) peroxide or DMBP, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C10H18O4. It is a colorless, crystalline solid that is widely used as a polymerization initiator, cross-linking agent, and curing agent in the production of various polymers, rubber, and adhesives. DMBP is particularly effective in the curing of unsaturated polyester resins and vinyl ester resins, as well as in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene. It is also used as a blowing agent in the foaming of plastics and as a catalyst in the synthesis of various organic compounds. Due to its high reactivity and potential to decompose, DMBP must be handled with care and stored under controlled conditions to prevent accidents.
