Reaction of (Me3Si)2(PhSMe2Si)CCl with BuLi at low temperature gave the organolithium reagent (Me3Si)2(PhSMe2Si)CLi, which was treated with Me3SnCl to give (Me3Si)2(PhSMe2Si)CSnMe3. Reaction of the latter with a one or two molar proportion of iodine gave the monoiodide (Me3Si)2(PhSMe2Si)CSnMe2I and the diiodide (Me3Si)2(IMe2Si)CSnMe2I respectively. The corresponding reaction with even a one molar proportion of bromine gave mainly the dibromide (Me3Si)2(BrMe2Si)CSnMe2Br. Treatment of the monoiodide with an excess of AgCN in CDCl3 gave (Me3Si)2(PhSMe2Si)CSnMe2CN, but similar treatment with AgBF4 gave mainly the difluoride (Me3Si)2(FMe2Si)CSnMe2F. Hydrolysis of the diiodide gave the mixed diol (Me3Si)2(HOMe2Si)CSnMe2OH.
