Reactions of aliphatic ketones with lithium trimethylsilyldiazomethane in the presence of excess olefins afforded methylenecyclopropanes in moderate to good yields. The multiplicity of the alkylidene carbene intermediate in the reacting state has been revealed to be a singlet.
