Hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid reacts with alicyclic ketones over SiO2 under microwave irradiation to give an amino acid salt, which cyclises in high yield to the corresponding lactam after work up in basic medium.

Alicyclic ketones react with an aqueous solution of hydroxylamine-O-sulfonic acid, forming the products from a Beckmann rearrangement.The intermediate products (o-sulfoketoximes) were isolated in the form of ammonium salts, and it was shown that they are capable of undergoing thermal rearrangement to amides.
