, p. 1791 - 1794 (2007/10/03)
A series of 2-substituted sulfanyl-3,5-dihydro-imidazole-4-ones and 2-substituted sulfanyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-diones was prepared and shown to increase high density lipoprotein cholesterol over other lipid fractions. Compound 1f showed efficacy in additional animal models. The major metabolite of 1f was isolated and its synthesis is reported. The effects of the metabolite on the lipid profile in rats were investigated. (C) 2000 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

Michael addition of nitrogen nucleophiles, 2-(arylimino)imidazolidines 3a,b to 4-arylidene-5(4H)oxazolones 4a-d followed by ring transformation of the isolable Michael adducts 5a-h yields new bicyclic compounds, 6-acet(or benz)amido- 5, 8-diaryl-2,3,5,6-tetrahydro-7H-imidazo[1,2-a]pyrimidin-7-ones 6a-h in one-pot. The formation of Michael adducts 5a-h and their ring transformation to 6a-h are highly diastereoselective. Compounds 6e-f exhibit 100% in vitro disease control (equivalent to Virazole) against Corn virus, Bean virus and Cucumber mosaic virus at 1000 ppm concentration.
