2-Isocyanatobenzoyl chlorides (I) react with diazomethane through chloroformyl group affording o-isocyanatodiazoactophenones (IV) wich immidiately undergo cyclization to 3-diazo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-2,4-dioxo-quinolines (II).However, treatment of I with diazoethane results in the formation of isatoic acid 2-isopropylester (VII) and diisopropylester (VIII) by the action of isopropyl alcohol present in the diazoethane reaction.
