Synthesis of unsymmetrically substituted meso-phenylporphyrins by Suzuki cross coupling reactions

The synthesis of unsymmetrically substituted meso-phenylporphyrins by Suzuki cross coupling reactions was discussed. The problems of product contamination, due to deboronylation encountered with electron deficient boronic acids, were overcomed with the use of boronic esters. The unsymmetrically substituted triphenylporphyrins were found to be accessed via partial debromination in situ.
