The borylation of 1,1′-bis(tri-methylstannyl)ferrocene for the preparation of disubstituted ferrocenes was investigated. The reaction provided the route for the formation of a kind of ferrocene-based heteronuclear bidentate Lewis acids. Steric and electronic factors controlled the rate of the reaction. Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis were used to characterize the heteronuclear bidentate Lewis acids.
