THe chemistry of quinoline derivatives is of increasing interest, since many of these compounds find useful applications as chemotherapeutic agents especially against malaria parasites and bacteria. On the other hand, it has been reported that certain α,β-unsaturated ketones and chalcones have bacteriostatic and fungistatic action .So, our interest has been emphasized to link a p-cinnamoylanilino side chain to the quinoline nucleus, since the resulting compounds may represent active intermediate in the synthesis of heterocycles such as isoxazoles, pyrimidones, pyrazolines and pyridones to be biologicaly tested as antimicrobial agents.
