Reactions of dihalosilanes with Iotsitch compounds derived from acetylenic alcohols or the corresponding trimethylsilyl ethers gave a number of previously unknown silicon-containing diacetylenic diols. Oxidation of bis(3-hydroxy-1-propynyl)dimethylsilane with activated MnO2 or pyridinium chlorochromate yielded bis(2-formyl-1-ethynyl)dimethylsilane which was isolated as the corresponding 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazone. 3-Dimethylsilyl-2-propyn-1-al possessing a Si-H bond and trimethylsilyl ethers of some acetylenic alcohols were synthesized for the first time.
