The invention relates to o-hydroxycyclohexyl acrylate and a preparation method thereof. The o-hydroxycyclohexyl acrylate is prepared from the following raw materials in molar ratio: epoxy cyclohexaneand methacrylic acid or acrylic acid in molar ratio of 1: (0.8-1.2); and adding a catalyst and a polymerization inhibitor, wherein the mass of the catalyst is 1%-5% of that of the cyclohexene oxide, and the mass of the polymerization inhibitor is 0.5%-2% of that of the cyclohexene oxide. According to the o-hydroxycyclohexyl acrylate and the preparation method thereof, an ester group and a hydroxylgroup are generated by reaction of an epoxy group open loop and a carboxyl group in acrylic acid (or methacrylic acid) and the hydroxyl group has relatively good hydrophilicity; and cyclohexyl is added into the acrylate so that the light transmittance of the acrylate polymer can be increased.
