24382-04-5 Usage
Uses
Used in Medical and Research Applications:
Sodium malondialdehyde is used as a biomarker for oxidative stress in various medical and research applications. It helps in the assessment of the level of oxidative damage in cells and tissues, which is crucial for understanding the pathophysiology of various diseases and conditions associated with oxidative stress.
Used in Food Industry:
In the food industry, sodium malondialdehyde is used as an index of oxidative rancidity. It is an essential parameter for evaluating the quality and shelf life of fats and oils, as well as processed food products that contain these ingredients. By monitoring the levels of MDA, food manufacturers can ensure the freshness and safety of their products, preventing the development of off-flavors and potential health risks associated with rancidity.
Air & Water Reactions
Water soluble.
Reactivity Profile
Sodium malondialdehyde. is an aldehyde. is an aldehyde. Aldehydes are frequently involved in self-condensation or polymerization reactions. These reactions are exothermic; they are often catalyzed by acid. Aldehydes are readily oxidized to give carboxylic acids. Flammable and/or toxic gases are generated by the combination of aldehydes with azo, diazo compounds, dithiocarbamates, nitrides, and strong reducing agents. Aldehydes can react with air to give first peroxo acids, and ultimately carboxylic acids. These autoxidation reactions are activated by light, catalyzed by salts of transition metals, and are autocatalytic (catalyzed by the products of the reaction). The addition of stabilizers (antioxidants) to shipments of aldehydes retards autoxidation. Sodium malondialdehyde. is sensitive to light and heat. Dilute aqueous solutions (1%) are stable when stored at -4° F in the dark for 7 days.
Fire Hazard
Flash point data for Sodium malondialdehyde. are not available; however, Sodium malondialdehyde. is probably combustible.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 24382-04-5 includes 8 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 5 digits, 2,4,3,8 and 2 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 24382-04:
(7*2)+(6*4)+(5*3)+(4*8)+(3*2)+(2*0)+(1*4)=95
95 % 10 = 5
So 24382-04-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
