GAS CHROMATOGRAPHIC ANALYSIS OF MIXTURES CONTAINING ALDONIC ACIDS, ALDITOLS, AND GLUCOSE.
Lehrfeld
, p. 1803 - 1806 (1984)
A method for the simultaneous determination of aldonic acids, alditols, and glucose has been developed. Samples are derivitized and then resolved by gas-liquid chromatography. During the derivatization procedure, aldonic acids are converted to N-alkylaldonamide acetates, alditols are converted to alditol acetates, and glucose is converted to an N-alkylglucosylamine acetate. A sample containing arabitol, xylitol, mannitol, glucitol, galactitol, glucose, ribonic acid, xylonic acid, mannonic acid, gluconic acid, and galactonic acid was derivatized and then resolved on a 3% SP 2340 glass column in 18 min.

This paper describes a facile and rapid approach to N-alkyl- and N-aryl-thiogluconamides employing δ-gluconolactone as starting material. The protocol involves a three-step sequence to afford the corresponding thioamides as crystalline substances in moder
