General Description
(2,3,4-Trichlorophenoxy)acetic acid, also known as 2,4,5-T, is a synthetic organic compound that is used as a defoliant and herbicide. It is chemically similar to the plant hormone auxin and disrupts plant growth by causing uncontrolled cell division in the meristems, leading to the death of the plant. 2,4,5-T was widely used during the Vietnam War as part of the Agent Orange herbicide mixture, which has been linked to numerous health and environmental problems. Due to its toxicity and potential for harmful effects, 2,4,5-T is no longer used in most countries and has been banned by international treaties.
