Procedures are given for the preparation and isolation of the folowing compounds: mer-, cis-Cl*1/2H2O, trans-Cl*H2O, Cl2, trans-CF3SO3 and (ClO4)2.Futhermore, a straightforward method for the preparation of Cl3 in high yield is given.Also, the preparation of (ClO4)3 is described.In addition to chemical analysis the compounds have been characterized by their electronic spectra, by their reactions with neat trifluoromethanesulphonic acid (chloro species), and by their IR spectra (acetato species).The concentration acidity constant of 3+ was determined to be (1.0 M NaClO4): -log (Ka/M)=6.716(7) (25 deg C) and 6.323(4) (40deg C).
