Anion activation on the aluminum oxide surface was found in the cycloaddition of N-benzylidenebenzylamine to styrene in the presence of sodium methylate in dimethyl sulfoxide.Prior deposition of sodium methylate on aluminum oxide markedly increases the yield of the reaction product 2,3,5-triphenylpyrrolidine.
