Synthesis of some new semisynthetic penicillins

Four semisynthetic penicillin, namely, o toloxy methylpenicillin, 4,6 dibromo 2 methyl phenoxy methylpenicillin, 2,6 dibromo 4 methyl phenoxy methylpenicillin and o nitrophenoxy methylpenicillin were synthesized by acylating 6 amino penicillanic acid with the appropriate acid chlorides These penicillins were tested for their antibacterial activities. Some penicillin salts were also prepared from penicillin G sodium salt and also different procaine derivatives, including those of 3,5 dibromoprocaine, 3,5 diiodoprocaine, N benzoylprocaine, N p nitro benzoylprocaine and N tosylprocaine. The ultraviolet spectra and solubilities of these salts were studied.
