Octane, 2,2'-thiobis- is primarily used as a vulcanizing agent in the rubber industry, particularly for natural rubber and styrene-butadiene rubber, to improve the rubber's strength, elasticity, and resistance to heat, oxygen, and aging. It is also employed as a plasticizer and a stabilizer in various polymer applications. Due to its chemical structure, it can form cross-links between polymer chains, enhancing the overall performance of the material.
