Methyl 3-O-acetyl-2-O-benzyl-4,6-O-benzylidene-α-D-galactopyranoside is a complex organic compound that belongs to the class of glycosides. It is derived from α-D-galactopyranose, a monosaccharide sugar, and features a methyl group, an acetyl group, and two benzyl groups attached to specific hydroxyl groups. The benzylidene group creates a cyclic structure between the 4 and 6 positions, protecting the hydroxyl groups and influencing the compound's reactivity. This chemical is often used in organic synthesis, particularly in the preparation of more complex carbohydrates and as a building block in the synthesis of various biologically active molecules. Its structure provides a stable intermediate that can be further modified in chemical reactions, making it a valuable tool in the field of carbohydrate chemistry.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 3053-13-2 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 3,0,5 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 1 and 3 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 3053-13:
(6*3)+(5*0)+(4*5)+(3*3)+(2*1)+(1*3)=52
52 % 10 = 2
So 3053-13-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Synthesis and NMR studies of methyl 3-O-[(R)- and (S)-1-carboxyethyl]-α-D-gluco-, galacto- and manno- pyranosides

Andersson, Lars,Kenne, Lennart

, p. 157 - 164 (1998)

The title compounds were prepared by condensation of a suitably protected monosaccharide and (R)- or (S)-2-chloropropionic acid followed by removal of the protecting groups. Characterisation by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy and NOE difference experiments revealed both chemical shift and enhancement differences between the diastereomers which could be used in determination of the absolute configuration of the 1-carboxyethyl group.
