The invention discloses 4, 5-difluoroethylene carbonate and a preparation method thereof. The purity of the 4, 5-difluoroethylene carbonate is greater than 99.9%, and the chromaticity of the 4, 5-difluoroethylene carbonate can be less than 10 Hazen. The preparation method comprises the following steps: carrying out a chlorine substitution reaction on fluoroethylene carbonate and a chlorination reagent to obtain an intermediate 4-fluoro-5-chloroethylene carbonate; and carrying out a fluorine replacement reaction on the intermediate and a fluorination reagent to obtain the 4, 5-difluoroethylenecarbonate. The 4, 5-difluoroethylene carbonate and the preparation method thereof have the beneficial effects that the raw material consumption is reduced, the yield is high, the reaction conditions are mild, the purity is of the product improved, and the performance and the cost competitiveness of the product are improved.
