PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a sulfonium compound with high purity, in which no inorganic ion as impurity is not present, with a high yield. SOLUTION: The method for producing a sulfonium compound represented by formula includes a step to extract a 4-substituted phenyl dialkyl sulfonium polyfluoride compound by an organic solvent including isopropyl acetate as a main component (however, in formula, R1represents any of hydrogen, a methoxycarbonyl group, an acetyl group, or a benzoyl group, R2represents any of hydrogen, a halogen, or a 1-4C alkyl group, and R3represents any of a 1-4C alkyl group, a benzyl group optionally substituted by a 1-4C alkyl group, or α-naphthylmethyl group, and R4represents a 1-4C alkyl group; X represents any of SbF6, PF6, AsF6, BF4, CF3SO3, (CF3SO2)2N, or B(C6F5)4).
