The synthesis and electronic and optical characteristics of new octasubstituted metal phthalocyanines: tetra-5-nitrotetra-4-phenoxy-, tetra-5-nitrotetra-4-(1-naphtoxy)-, and tetra-5-nitrotetra-4-[(4-phenylazo)phenoxyphthalocyanines are described. An effect of the functional substituents on the position of the Q band in the electronic absorption spectra in organic solvents and concentrated sulfuric acid is revealed.
