Attempts to induce the formation of the dibenzoxepine ring of cularine compounds by generating an electron-deficient system in ring C of an 8-hydroxybenzylisoquinoline met with failure.Attack by C-8 phenol on a "p-quinone methide" intermediate afforded be
OXOCOMPOSTELLINE AND OXOCULARINE, STRUCTURE AND SYNTHESIS
Boente, J.M.,Castedo, L.,Lera, A. Rodriguez de,Saa, J.M.,Suau, R.,Vidal, M.C.
, p. 2295 - 2298 (2007/10/02)
Structures (1) and (2) were deduced for these two new oxocularine alkaloids from spectral data and synthesis. The latter was achieved by a novel approach based on intramolecular cyclization between a phenoxide and an intermediate benzyne.
